CATECHISM Info:
Catechism Instruction for the 2015-16 school year begins Sunday, September 6, 2015 at 6:00 pm.
Catechism at St. Peter's Lutheran is designed for 7th and 8th grade youth and their parent mentors to learn about God from His word. This is a two year program. The first year is a study of the Old Testament. The second year is a study of the New Testament. We teach the Six Chief Parts of Christian Doctrine as found in Luther's Small Catechism as they fit into the Bible stories. For example, when we learn about Creation we also learn about the First Article of the Apostle's Creed. When we read about David and Bathsheba we also learn the Sixth Commandment.
Catechism training is intended to build up the baptized Christian by obeying the Great Commission of Jesus Christ in Matthew 28 (Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.) Christ's mission is to make disciples. He uses the church to do so by giving the Church tools. Baptism is an important part of God's work of making disciples. But so is instruction (catechesis). Confirmation is a rite of the Church which indicates that a baptized child of God has been taught the core doctrines (teachings) of the Word of God. If baptism imparts faith which believes, confirmation imparts the faith which is believed.
